Calvin Jerome Murphy was born on May 9, 1948 in Norwalk, CT. He is the son of Ina Miller. Murphy was always looked at differently playing a big man’s sport because of his 5'9" height. However, he never let the critics deter him from his dreams. Instead it fueled him as he would be one of the best players on the court at every level of competition.

Murphy attended Norwalk High School. He was one of the best basketball players in state history. He was a three-time All-State selection and a two-time All-American. He led his high school team to a state title in 1966, a year when he averaged over 40 points per game. Although he had an incredible high school career, major college programs shied away from him because of his height. Murphy would accept a scholarship offer to play college basketball at Niagara.

Calvin Murphy College Career Stats and Notes
