Alan Page NFL Career Stats and Notes
Page was selected 15th overall in the 1967 NFL Draft by the Minnesota Vikings. He spent the first twelve seasons of his career in Minnesota, making the Vikings’ defense one of the best in league history. In 1978, Page joined the Chicago Bears. He played four seasons in the Windy City before retiring after the 1981 season. Page was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1988.
Alan Page 1971 NFL MVP and Defensive Player of the Year
Page was one of the dominant defensive players during his era. In 1971, he had accomplished something that only two defensive players have ever done in the history of the game. As the leader of the Vikings’ stout defensive line nicknamed the ‘Purple People Eaters’, Page was named NFL MVP and Defensive Player of the Year, the first player to win both awards in the same year. The award combo is so rare that legendary linebacker Lawrence Taylor is the only other defensive player to achieve this feat.
